About the Photo
I shot the lone cypress tree along 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach, California on a fairly overcast day. The sun was actually shining on the mountains towards Big Sur and Carmel By The Sea across Carmel Bay. The cypress trees in the foreground created a nice natural window around the real star of the show in the lone cypress. In 2019, a strong winter storm damaged the tree, which has been standing for around 250 years. While a third of the tree was broken, it still stands as a monument and sole survivor against the harsh elements of the Pacific Storm and is a beautiful reminder that beauty can be found in even the most extreme circumstances!
