About the Photo
The Portland Japanese Garden is known for a number of different kinds of gardens. There is the Natural Garden, the Tea Garden, the Strolling Pond Garden, the Sand and Stone Garden and there Flat Garden, which is pictured here. Each area of the Portland Japanese Garden has it’s own serene and calming feeling as you’re strolling through it. According to the Portland Japanese Garden website, the Flat Garden was designed to highlight the different seasons and their distinct beauty. On this visit, I was there in the fall, which is punctuated here by this breath-taking Japanese Maple Tree draped in it’s full autumn coat. Contrasted with the deep greens of the evergreen trees that rise above the garden, the oranges of the maple tree stand out in a blaze of glory.
