About the Photo
Dubbed by many as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific", the beautiful Waimea Canyon is 13 miles long, a mile wide and more than 3,500 feet deep! In Hawaiian, Waimea means "reddish water". And these cliffs are as red as they get. Water from the Waimea River drain through the Waimea Canyon out towards Waimea Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The water comes from the top of Mount Waiʻaleʻale, one of the wettest places on earth.
