About the Photo
This was my first experience photographing the burning of the Flint Hills. Every year in the spring, it's range burning time. Depending on the wind direction, you can smell a burn for many miles away. This particular burn was going on northeast of Florence, Kansas. My favorite angle was from the west. Smoke was rising and the wind had shifted northeast. The nearly full moon had just risen and it created a beautiful illumination in the post-sunset hour, along with a few of the brighter stars piercing through the orange smoke.
