Photographic Story

Battle Canyon, south of Lake Scott State Park in Kansas, is the site of the last Native American battle in Kansas. It's also incredibly scenic, and full of dark skies at night. When I visited to photograph this, the moon was hours away from rising, and the only clouds in the sky were well off in the distance at the Colorado border, creating some low horizon lightning to add to the scene. I didn't even realize it until after I took the shot that a meteor also streaked across the sky! The monument pictured in the center is the monument to the battle site.
